Sunday 28th November
All American Car Clubs & Lakeside Raceway Present - Thanksgiving at
Lakeside
Representatives of American Car Clubs met with Queensland Raceways
staff at Lakeside on Sunday 8 August, to review the All American
Lakeside event. It is now confirmed that the next big American
car event will be held on Sunday 28 November, entitled ‘Thanksgiving
at Lakeside.’ It will be the second of two annual American car
events to be held on site.
The major issue arising from the 4th of July was the catering, but
substantial improvements were already in evidence for the weekend of
7-8 August. This event was the annual Lakeside Classic Speed
Festival, which had an estimated crowd of 6,000 on the Sunday (about
double what we saw on the 4th of July). Catering had been
ramped up, with four outlets in addition to the Lakeside Café.
This, combined with many bringing a picnic lunch, resulted in peak
queuing of no more than 8 minutes.
Another issue was on the club cruises, with many clubs reporting
other people tagging along without invitation. It is being
proposed that clubs issue windscreen stickers for the next event to
identify bona-fide participants for each club cruise.
Car parking in a couple of paddocks needed a bit more definition, to
use available space better while allowing freedom of car movement to
and from the track. Communication via the radio frequency was
ineffective due to an issue on the day, but will be checked early
next time. Toilets will be placed at the eastern end of the
pits.
On the whole though, feedback was very positive, and the event is
set to grow.
Thanksgiving at Lakeside is proposed to have a similar format to the
All American Day. Gates will officially open at 7.30, half an
hour earlier. The initial briefing will be held at 8.45,
allowing a start of track activities at 9.00, also half an hour
earlier. The tri-carthlon will be run again, with pre-entry
via the Queensland Raceways’ website being the primary means of
entry. Three clubs will be required to help run the event,
with the possibility of others ‘learning the ropes’ for future
duties.
Time will be allowed for eight club cruise sessions on the day,
which will be priced at $200 each as per last time. Several
open sessions will also be held.
Entry fee structure is being changed to $10 per adult (kids under 12
free), to bring the event into line with other Queensland Raceways’
events.
Clubs indicating their interest so far (mostly for the same parking
location, same number of spaces and club cruise) :
Pontiac
Gold Coast Musclecar Assoc.
Qld Chevrolet
Cadillac
Qld Corvette Club
Graffiti Rodders
Pony Car Club
Mustang Owners
Studebaker
Resurrected Relics, plus a new club, Northern Districts Rodders
The 14 clubs participating in the inaugural All American (our
foundation clubs) will have preference with regards to their
previous arrangements.
New club registration forms will be sent out soon, which will give
details for the club cruise payments.
Traders will be invited again, and it is likely more will be
involved this time after the success of the All American.
The exact timetable for the day is being fine tuned.
Trip leader and meeting point details will be added soon.
Please see Mossy if you'd like to volunteer as run leader or with
offers of assistance for the day.
