I was slightly worried about the numbers that
would turn out for my run, as, due to work commitments, I had not
been at home for the last week to answer the phone . It turned out
that I had no need to worry at all. As I stood waiting with Doug
Stilgoe at the Glen Hotel Corvettes kept on coming and coming, and
by 5.30 we had a gathering of 22 Corvettes and 7 non-American cars.
My thoughts turned to “how am I going to find enough road
to re group a convoy of this size”. Luckily, the run to Billy's
was only four left turns and one set of traffic lights away. Greg’s
driveway was long enough to get us all off the road quickly.
Wayne
Nichols and John Bondok arranged the Corvettes in, outside and around
the vintage American gas Station. Our Host Greg gave each driver
a key ring, sticker and a brochure detailing the history of his
gas station. He left us to enjoy his fantastic private collection
of memorabilia as well as his magnificent mobile home, what a beautiful
piece of work. Many photos later and after much talk it was time
to go. I thanked Greg for his hospitality and he has kindly offered
to host another evening for the club.
We
then had a quick half-hour cruise on the back roads to Victoria
Point Café with little traffic to hold us up . By all reports,
everybody enjoyed the simple cafe style meals. Stan Simankowicz
got his obligatory latte and Sue Webro ended up with the right meals
without a delay. The only bad thing to report was that someone reversed
into Gary Anderson’s car outside the café. Some local
teenagers took down the registration number and gave it to Gary.
Elfi
and I would like to thank you all for making the night an outstanding
success.
Allan.
What
a great turn out it was. Obviously, an early Saturday night run
on a mild Autumn day is great Corvette cruising weather. An attendance
of 60 for a run is just fantastic. Well done everyone.
