| Friday Night Dinner 15 February 2008, Armet's
Turkish Restaurant, Victoria Point Every so often there is an event or a night out that warrants a special report. The Friday Night Dinner run on 15th February is one of them. By most accounts, the menu was very good, our resident vegetarian had a big choice for a change and was more than happy with her dish although she found it difficult sitting next to Barb Kelly who set about devouring a plate of baby octopus. Sorry Barb but for someone who won’t eat anything she can look in the eye or pat, it was a bit of a challenge. Initially the venue was chosen because of the entertainment on offer. It seems that the opportunity to see the belly dancer in action could not be missed and there was plenty to say before the event. Nev Solomon it seems, is a closet entertainer and it was clearly evident from an early stage that the he would be involved. Bobby Mihill, our resident showman could not help himself along with a demure John Webro and flamboyant Peter Turner. I think Barb Kelly was hiding as I have never seen her so quiet. Not too keen to bare the belly hey Barb. The bellydancer worked her magic around the tables and eventually found her way to our group. She selected John and Nev to assist handing them coloured walking sticks for props, and they sure needed them. From where I sat the performances from the amateurs were pretty sad but entertaining and despite the presence of substantial bellys, there was no wobble and very little coordinated dance. Bobby and Pete were very active and put on a show behind the scenes much to the amusement of the crowd. The night ended with a parade of Vettes outside the restaurant. The owner “Ahmet” and his wife were invited to sit in Pete Turner’s C5 convertible and thoroughly enjoyed it. Another great night out with 29 attending. It's no wonder the Friday Night Dinner has become so popular. Allen Squire |
