Australian Muscle Car Museum - Sunday 16 November 2008.
A nice sunny Sunday, perfect for a cruise in one of Gods rewards, a
Corvette.
Well bugger me if we didn't get one of the biggest turn outs of Vettes in a while. 19 cars and 36 of us got together starting out for the Southerners at Macca's Loganholme, then venturing Northside to pick up the rest at the Nudgee roadhouse. A half hour trip north ended us up at Narangba to meet the owner of The Australian Muscle Car Museum, and then given directions to the private property. Car parking for us was to have an area set aside to show our vehicles as well. One would have thought a bit of extra mowing in the paddock would have been on list of grand opening duties! However, we all managed to get in and out of the paddock without drama, Barb didn't trust Dave on the grass so he left the C5 out front! We had some cold refreshments and waited for Ian and Sonia as they were learning how the vat security system on C4's work. Once entering, what one would call an old chook shed, we found 100 cars all looking for some Surf City Garage attention. To the classic muscle car buff however, a bit of an eye opener. How could one bloke have so many good dirty examples of Aussie collectables? Geoff got excited over a V8 Volvo and Carolee thought it looked like his shed 30 years ago. I even found a replica of my very first car, MK1 GT Cortina, same colour even. I only bought that car to use as a trade on a Vette! Anyway, after the public came and had a look at real muscle cars in the paddock, Bob quickly put his bonnet up for display (he must of thought there was a trophy), we decided to exit and head for the lunch venue. Always some members best part of a day out. Bewdiful pizza's etc next door to a bottle shop, great idea that. We helped the Narangba economy quite some, introduced new members to our eating habits, told the odd joke, mingled between tables pinching Lorna's chips and the cheese of Jaime's pizza, then decided to head south. Had to put up with some smart comments along the way from Z06 members about icicles on their noses from their air con, as if it was hot in the C3 convertible ( pass the sunscreen Ali). Stopped at Nudgee for an ice coffee, then oh no, look at the sky. Had to slip stream one C5 down the M1 as quick as, we got wet about Yatala, never seen anything like it, cars pulling over left and right, thunder and torrential rain unbelievable. I used it to my advantage and got passed the Kelly's, good thing about the rear wheels on my C3 - you just aquaplane.
Muscle car Museum? Dunno! We
had a usual great day out anyway and great to see so many members
including new ones, call that your initiation run.
