Ormeau Fair - Saturday 9th August, 2008

Write-up by Tammy Hewitt of the Cady Club

The weather was absolutely Queensland to a tee, PERFECT.

Terry and I left home just before 7.00 am and arrived just after 8.00 am to find several people and their cars already in attendance.  Pretty amazing considering the Show didn't officially start until 10.00 am.

Gazebo up, Cadillac Flag flying, 300 punnets of strawberries in shade / ice chests, now the serious work was to begin.  Kellie Hall and Terry Lobegeier greeted cars and guests upon entry.  Robyn Griffin and Tammy Hewitt greeted each car exhibitor with a complimentary punnet of strawberries (courtesy of the Cadillac Club), a Trivia Quiz and requested Registration Forms be completed, signed and left in the car for collection later.

Car numbers were up 50% on last year.  The Qld Cadillac Club had formed affiliations throughout the year with the Corvette Club whom invited Caddys to participate at Indy both in 2007 and again 2008, which resulted in some very impressive Corvettes gracing our Show.  Recently the Pontiac Club has very graciously invited the Cadillac Club along on their very well organised runs.  This was reciprocated by the Pontiac Club by coming along and participating at Ormeau Fair which resulted in some muscle cars with distinction.  We had some fabulous Buicks present themselves and the Early Ford V8 Club once again came along and contributed enormously to the Show.  We also had northsiders Cliff and Di Ellis travel the distance in their Show Winning, 1959 Dodge Custom Royal Coupe.  Some fun and keen car enthusiasts from the Gold Coast based Car Club "Paradise Cruisers' also made it their second annual pilgrimage to Ormeau Fair and were the last to leave the grounds - really making the most of this FABULOUS, FREE, community event.

A huge thank you goes out Val Sharp for 'trailering' his Hearse to the grounds and exhibiting a fantastic, crowd drawing, Halloween Display.  TRULY INCREDIBLE.

Special mention must go to Guy Obren who went to the trouble of bringing two FANTASTIC Cadillacs.

An enormous effort from Kevin and Jean Pellick who came in a fabulous '59 Caddy Convertible complete with mannequins that sat under '50's style beach umbrella at the 59's boot. At the front of the '59, another mannequin was enjoying a 50's style picnic.

A big thank you must go to Kellie Hall for co-ordination of the trophies and for her very generous public relations activities ensuring that all guests felt welcome and valued.  Kellie's Trivia Quiz also ensured that all Car Club members interacted.

A big thank you to Mike and Deb Skimmings along with Robert Sutherland for an excellent job of judging.  This year seen 6 new categories in the trophy division, totalling 13 trophies up for grabs.  Terry Griffin did an introduction of welcome and Mike Skimmings announced the winning exhibitors whom had the opportunity to have their photos taken with the Cadillac Clubs' own 1950s Rock N Rollers; Kellie Hall, Tammy Hewitt and Robyn Griffin.

A big thank you goes to President, Terry Griffin for his interactive enthusiasm and passionate photo taking.

A big thank you goes to Lyndon Stephenson and Kellie Hall for their co-ordination of the logistics of keeping the strawberries cool.

A big thank you also goes to Robyn Griffin for her tireless efforts in ensuring a smooth, profitable and enjoyable day for all.

Terry Lobegeier spent from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm walking amongst the Fair 'busking' strawberries for sale.  Last year, the Club had sold out of strawberries by 1.30 pm.  This year we hadn't even recovered our costs by this time.  Robert Sutherland was quick to step up to the challenge and was often thwarted in his efforts, as the loud voiced Terry had previously already spruiked to the same crowd and cleaned them out of their strawberry money.  Quick to learn the art of selling and slight of hand, Rob worked out that if you didn't have a full tray of strawberry punnets, people assumed that they were a hot selling item and they didn't want to miss out.  This seen Rob returning to replenish his tray often.  Robyn Griffin was prompt to also take action in selling strawberries to the public with great results.  Between Terry, Robert, Robyn and Tammy the Cadillac Club realised $300.00 in profit from sales of the strawberries and soft drinks.  A HUGE, HEART FELT THANK YOU from the Club on your incredible efforts and enthusiasm in raising funds.

The day was truly well supported with brand new club members, Glen, Claire and John Perkins making the trip down from Gatton in their fabulous '63 Cadillac Fleetwood.  Ormeau Fair also attracted long time club members who haven't been able to participate in recent events, to come along and enjoy the day.   Special guests included a visit by first time parents, Chris and Cheryl Bateman which had Terry and Tammy fighting over who was going to have the first nurse of gorgeous, 6 month old baby Cherie.  Also amongst the special guests were Lachlan and Enid Ronalds from Victoria who actively participated in the day.

Obviously a big thank you must go to all who came along and participated in big ways and small, for without each and every contribution, they day would not be !!

Organiser and President of the Lions Club Ormeau, has once again asked the Caddy Club to co-ordinate next years' show - a sure sign that the 2008 Cadillac hosted Cars of Interest Show was well received and appreciated.

Enjoy fellow car enthusiasts, Leonce Kealys pics below.

Kind regards
