Nine Corvettes and three family taxi's departed the Clive Peeters meeting
point on the dot of 8, to commence a convoy run south to Calypso Bay.
We wound our way through acres of beautiful prime water front land arriving
at Harrigan's Irish Pub right on 8:30am - well done to our route planner /
organiser.
We were all pleasantly surprised to have Mick Reptik, join our day, fresh from his
marathon holiday in the States. Great to have you and Isabell home
safely mate.
Our private tables awaited us, in the sunken dining area (kind of
appropriate for a water front venue....), and we all enjoyed a tasty buffet
breakfast before hitting the car show.
The 2009, Rod and Custom Show was presented by Harrigan's, Guthrie Racing
and the Queensland Chevrolet Car Club - and what a 'full house' show this
was. By 10:15, the judging area was full, the display area was full
and the substantial public car parks were full!!!
Our members spread out to take in the variety of Rods & Customs on
display and to catch up with early arrivals as well as friends who are
members of other clubs. Trade and memorabilia retailers were very well
represented with all those hard to get items available. We met our
friend Michelle from Shell's Hot Rod Memorabilia and of-course, our mate
James from Surf City Garage plus lots of other lovely people with lots of
novel and innovative items for sale.
In all, the Queensland Corvette Club had a dozen or so, examples of the
Corvette marque along for the day and we all enjoyed a beautiful Queensland
morning doing something we all love.
Many thanks to Alison, for organising this run - top job. Our
timing was perfect all morning. We beat the traffic, beat the queues,
beat the car park jam and beat the heat. A big club thank you to the
lovely staff of Harrigan's and to the organisers of the day, a top job all
round.
I'm already looking forward to doing this event next year.
Cheers Jaimes
