| Australia Day - Monday 26th January 2009 Bayside Vehicle Restorers Club, Ormiston Classic Car Rally |
Great to see that all members made it to the designated meeting point this year for the start of a Classic day. Unfortunately, one of our number suffered a dreaded C4 fuel pump failure at the meeting point and was unable to complete the day. Luckily, he has a donor vette at home and was able to remove the spare pump and make repairs to have the beast back on the road.
Although Jaimes was run leader, it just wouldn't be right to have an XR6 at the front of the convoy, so Ernie volunteered his white ZR1 to lead the pack to the destination via Capalaba. This ZR1 has been known to maintain quite a fast pace and it was pleasingly respectful of Ernie to take-it slowly and begin Australia Day on a relaxing note. Ten Corvettes and two mum's taxi's formed-up to make the 15 minute run with everyone arriving as one group to park together.
The volunteers from Bayside Vehicle Restorers Club are to be congratulated for organising another great rally. Despite an overcast day, hundreds and hundreds of classic cars turned out for the morning. Humidity was a bit of a problem but is to be expected at this time of year.
We met another Corvette nut with a black 2004 C5 Z06 - lovely to catch up Wayne, and young Daniel, who is looking forward to the day when he can buy his first vette. Wayne was nice enough to join the crew for a scenic drive with the Mustang Club to their Morningside club house via the Wynnum foreshore.
Many thanks to the Queensland Mustang Club for inviting our guys to a relaxing Australia Day BBQ lunch. We made some great friends and look forward to more involvement with these equally social and crazy car nutz. John lead the lunch convoy in his beautiful Mach 1 Mustang, from Ormiston to Morningside and did a top job trying to keep twenty odd Mustangs and half a dozen vettes together in the traffic.
The Mustang Club provided a great lunch with an Australia Day theme and made us all feel very welcome. There were burgers, snags, salads and we finished the meal with lovely pavlova. Of-course, all were encouraged to stave-off dehydration by partaking in a good selection of ice cold refreshments.
Thank you to all of the members from both clubs that were able to attend the day, with a special thanks to the lovely people from the Mustang Club who spent the morning setting up for lunch and were unable to make the car rally.
