Tait's BBQ / Sports Day - Sunday 30th August 2009

Sunday August 30th saw about 30 of us venture down the M1 to Maudsland to the home of John and Jan Tait.

The day was based on a fund raiser for the club utilising the hospitality of the Tait's and their property, including tennis court, pool, lawn area's and of course BBQ, as well as some of the wives supplying scummy munchies!

All the kids loved "their frog in a pond," didn't they Barb, and Ernie turned up just in time from the Mustang show, to finish up the last 25 sausages.  As for the tennis tournament, the Mossy / Sal combination won the honours after all the play offs, and we only lost 18 balls in the paddock.

Keith and Bill looked threatening earlier on, Keith said it was hard playing with a handicap (Bill), so we made him do the "losers jump in the pool."

John got beaten on his home track and was relegated to the BBQ position, and because Glen picked me to be his partner I had to do the "losers jump in the pool" as well.  I let Sal win because I didn't want her to have to jump in the pool too.

As for the  Boche game, daughter Maddison proved you can throw anything with a broken arm if you have to, so Dave challenged her to the chess board for the rest of the day. Ali doesn't like exercise, so she and some other wives sampled the fine wine and foods whilst watching.  Carolee proved the red ball was faster than the yellow in the putting comp.and both Ron and Jean backed her up, much to the disgust of Geoff!!!!

As the day got as long as our tennis arms, the plates and bottles got emptied and the kids got out of the pool, it was time to bid farewell to the "Maudsland Cup" and let John and Jan apologise to the neighbours,  organise the mini skip bins, the clean up teams and drain the pool.

Fund raising days are as successful as those who support them, and all those who were there on Sunday, thankyou.  Fund raising days are also a load of fun, so we should do that again, I'm thinking the "Annual Maudsland Cup" sounds good, what do you think John and Jan?

Thanks to the Roberts for bringing games, the Ladies for bringing food including Ali's "Pav",  everyone for bringing their sense of humour, and of course to John and Jan Tait for bringing it all together.......... cheers  Peter Turner

Thanks to Mike for his photos.
