Bayside Vehicle Restorers Club Classic Car Rally & Mustang Club BBQ - Australia Day, Tuesday 26th January 2010

Nine Corvettes participated in a great day of sunshine and nostalgia at the annual Classic Car Rally.  The many volunteers from Bayside Vehicle Restorers are to be congratulated for hosting an excellent morning at what is fast becoming one of South East Queensland's largest all makes car rally's.  It is said that there were around 800 entries at this event in 2009, and I'd guess there must have been 150 more this year!

We commenced the day with a leisurely cruise from the meeting point on Mt Gravatt - Capalaba Road, following a new route via Alexandra Hills to the Ormiston State School.  We arrived at 07:40 and must remember to plan our arrival earlier next year as the arena was almost full!  Cars quickly overflowed onto the adjoining oval and were still arriving at 9am.

After catching up with friends, we spent the next couple of hours perusing the many and varied cars on display.  It was hot, damn hot!  Glad we all bought plenty of cool water as the temperature climbed to 33 degrees by mid morning.

Great to meet Chris, the newest owner of Stan & Sally-Ann's beautiful 82 coupe.  Chris drove from Ipswich and was one of the first to arrive at the meeting point - top effort mate.  We look forward to seeing more of Chris and his magic C3 throughout 2010.

Chris L in his Blue 88 and Glenn & Jayne in their Black 76 raced from Clive Peeters fearing that everyone had left without them - only to discover they were everyone!  All the other Vettes went straight to the 7/11.

Good to see Brett along in his Yellow C3 after issues on the last run to Montville, well done mate.

It seems that C4's are presently causing some heartache with Ian arriving in the MazdaVette, Ernie with headlight & air conditioning issues and Mike possibly blowing a seal (not that seal joke again - Pete) an air conditioning compressor seal while waiting to exit the school grounds.  The EH Holden club jumped in front of us as we were exiting and they had about 8,000 cars along for the day (well it seemed like 8,000 while we were waiting in hot cars in the sun).

We end-up waiting until around 9:40 for the majority of cars to depart on the numerous planned runs before teaming up with our friends from the Mustang Club for a convoy to their Club House at Morningside.

These guys hosted a fantastic Australia Day BBQ with burgers, snags, pavlova, lamingtons and cold refreshing drinks.  Special thanks to the wonderful helpers who elected to stay behind and prepare lunch while everyone else enjoyed the car rally.  The burgers were fresh and drinks certainly cold as we settled in to meet new friends.

Corvette Club members did well in the afternoon raffles with Mike and Sally picking up a few prizes between them.  I think the Mustang Club are going to give all Corvette drivers fuel gift cards next year..... just for coming.  Thanks again to the Mustang Owners Club for their hospitality and friendship, we love getting together with you guys and really appreciate you letting us win all your raffles........

Special thanks to John Delaney and our Mustang friends for inviting our crew along to lunch, it was great catching up.

Another memorable run to the Classic Car Rally.  Unfortunately, folks that were unable to attend missed one of SEQ's motoring highlights.
