Gold Coast BBQ Cruise, Saturday 24th April 2010

"Rainy days and Mondays always get me down....."

That is until you get a break in the weather on the Saturday night of our BBQ and cruise and a chance to get into your Corvette and help lift the extremely dampened spirits.

10 Vettes and 30 people took the punt that my prayers were answered and lined up at the Hyperdome for a 5:15 departure.  Some a bit dubious of the weather elected to bring their civilian vehicles and leave the polished Vettes in the shed.  After venturing down the M1 turning of to Labrador and regrouping on the waterside we caught our first glimpse of all the pretty lights of the coast.

The Tiger Shark got excited being seaside so we decided to continue on through Surfers and head towards our BBQ rendezvous with my kids, I mean our hosts, waiters and bar tenders.  Melanie, Ash, Maddi and Jack made both Ali and myself extremely proud as they not only had seating organised, but tables set, beer and wine on ice and the meat on the BBQ when we arrived.  Well done kids, (no doubt that will cost me) anyway after we lined a couple of vehicles up for lighting as the lights over the area blew, and John Webro played on the swings, Mike Gocs tried to ride a scooter and Ali fed the randoms in the park with our left over food, we thought it was time to pack up in case of rain.

A brief sprinkle is all we got as we headed off to Ernie's favourite parking spot, the look out up the top of Burleigh.  We all got some photo's, smiled and went oohhh ahhh at the lights of Surfers, Phil Murray also went oohh as he took of for a walk with new girlfriend Heather, never to be seen again.  Catering officer Ali then came up with a great idea, why don't you all come back to our place for coffee and scones, which about 16 adventure seekers thought  was a good idea.  A quick phone call to the kids again to organize fresh scones on the table for when we arrived then out came the coffee and port to wash it down with and before we new it was midnight.

After what seemed a long period of terrible weather, El Nino and the Run Gods smiled on us just a little for the evening and also allowed us convertibles to participate topless as we cruised through "Surfers Paradise", Australia's craziest city.....

             cheers Peter Turner
