  Gympie Roadcraft Skidpan Weekend, 29 & 30 May 2010

An overcast, drizzling rainy day greeted the 48 people who assembled at BP Burpengary for the drive to Gympie on Saturday morning.  Nevertheless the drive to the Bellbird Tea House was good and there enjoyed the fresh scones & tea.  Our host Pete is a motorbike fan and his venue will be used again by our Pete & Dave.

We arrived at CJ’S on the Park on time in-spite of the fact that someone decided to build a new bridge at Kandanga & closed our planned route.  Mossy had an electrical problem but with the help of Dave & others got going again.  CJ’s closed their venue just to accommodate us and they did a fine job.

Performax were likewise great hosts and they & I was pleased to see the level of interest expressed by the ladies.  The real fun started next morning on the skid pan.  With 23 drivers including two ladies the Vettes plus one club sport and one GT Falcon spent most of the day sideways and when not sideways, in 360’s plus.  Greg from Roadcraft did a wonderful job and we all learnt a lot about our cars and our driving ability.  John Webro demonstrated real skill, Brad demonstrated his lack of it and Kevin demonstrated how to play skittles with “Witches Hats”.

Everyone had a great time. Thanks to Greg from Roadcraft and to all the members who helped on the day. We will do it again. Check out the web site for moving action.

Cheers Keith Hosking
