Ernie and Sally's Observation Run - Sunday 21st March
2010
After a great
deal of worry about a certain Cyclone crossing the Qld coast on the morning
of our Run, an intrepid 7 Corvettes set out from Loganholme.
Stopped in at Sylvan Park, Toowong to pick
up any possible north or west-side members (none!) and to have our driver
briefing.
There seemed to
be a little league
carnival going on
and car parks were non-existent, so the briefing
was brief! I might add, the park was
empty when Ernie & I did the dry run and seemed ideal.
Such is life!
Members set off on the most difficult
leg of the journey through the north-west side of Brisbane, of which none of
us is very familiar. After
a couple of wrong turns and some inaccuracies with the Google Map, we all
managed to make it to the top of beautiful Mt. Glorious for morning tea.
Ali, Sally & Sue had done some
delicious home baking so we all tucked in.
Members were taking odometer readings
and timing each leg of the run, as this was one of the prize categories.
Next leg down the mountain was pretty
easy, with two left turns seeing us in Fernvale in time for an early lunch.
The town was hopping also, but most people seemed to be concentrated
at the Markets
on the north side. Sue Webro cast a longing glance in their direction, but
was informed there was no time for any of that!
Members enjoyed a
standard pub-style lunch and handed in their 2nd quiz for
marking. Allen & Sue seemed to be firming as
favorites, with Ron & Jean Austen in hot pursuit.
Set off on the final leg after Peter's
attempt to get himself arrested had failed. Good
chance for a blat down the Ipswich
/
Toowoomba road and then the Logan
Motorway. The
Tiger shark went a bit guppy again, with black smoke pouring from the
air-conditioning unit. A
short stop for some running repairs and it was on the road again.
Things
now a bit tense in the Turner cabin!
Finally, we
arrived safely at BP Stapylton, except the Austen's,
who sailed through the roundabout and took
the long way home.
Last quiz was handed in and pronounced
“too hard.”
Barb
Kelly announced she & Dave were doing the next quiz night and that all the
questions would be about Maths, Science, the
Stock Market and Ragdoll cats! Go
Barb!
As expected, Allen Squire & Sue were
easily the Quiz winners (4 x litre tins
of jellybeans), with the Pleffers (nice to see them both again), the closest
to Ernie & I on mileage & timing section. They
took home a cute travel clock. Thanks to all that came and think the
Whittles will have a break for a bit now!
A big thank you to Sally and Ernie for organising this great event
unfortunately, one thing we still can't control is the weather. Well
done those brave souls who supported this run by participating so whole
heartedely.
Thanks to Pete & Ali for the great pics.
