GAME REVIEW (Corvette the Game)

All right, here is something else for the never-ending Corvette memorabilia collection and for those rainy days when taking the 'Vette' out for a cruise, will undo hours of detailing. Kick the kids off the Playstation, X Box or PC
and load this puppy up. Corvette the computer game has now arrived!

Available at Amazon.com for $19.00 (US) for the PC game, and $35.00 (US) for expedited shipping, I ordered my PC copy on Monday night and it arrived on Friday via UPS. All up, around $72.00 (AU) for the game. This is a small price to pay for curing that itch that can't be scratched, when the heavens open up! The game is available on Playstation, X Box and PC
formats, so choose wisely with your format in mind. If you are going to run on a PC, you will need some serious grunt, so if yours is not up to at least these requirements, you will need to race out for some more grunt parts.

You will need as a minimum:

Pentium III 700 MHz or AMD Duron 900 MHz
4 x CD-Rom
128MB RAM
DirectX 9.0 or higher (included with game)
DivX Codec
650MB Free hard disk space
3D Video Card (DirectX compatible) with 64MB RAM
LAN connection for Multiplayer
Sound Card (DirectX 9.0 compatible)

Review
Well if you are like me and have Corvette running through your blood, you will love this
game. Play in various modes including:

Quick Race Mode - For when there isn't enough bad weather around to stay inside all day! Choose any stock Corvette and take it out on the road for some immediate speed thrills.

Career Mode - No this is not the same mode as how some of us drive on Corvette runs! You've got the race of your life ahead of you in the single player mode. You're going to race through Corvette's history, one Corvette generation at a time. You will have to place at least 3rd to move onto the next level and receive car upgrades.

Arcade Mode - Race your favourite stock Corvette through a series of arcade-style challenges.

Special Modes - Unlock the Special Modes by successfully playing races in Career Mode.

Hot Lap Challenge – Race to beat the best Lap Time
Custom Vette Challenge – Race some of your favourite custom Corvette Models

Circuit Endurance – Race between 20 and 50 laps against five other Vettes.

Route 66 Checkpoint
– Race against the clock and avoid other traffic and the cops to meet the next checkpoint.

Mother Road Endurance – Race through all five highways until you've reached the other side of Route 66

All up, I give the game a 'big thumbs up', maybe even two! Check out the body roll on the earlier Vettes. I managed to get the old girl up to around 108 mph, flat stick on the oval track. Just keep her flat and start steering way before the corners! Things get a little faster with the C2's, with the most amount of throaty power coming from this generation. So far I am up to the Sharks in Career Mode, where they surprisingly handle a little better than previous years, but the throaty sound seems to disappear.

Computer graphics are excellent, watch out for black marks and smoke when doing do-nuts, not that you should be doing this, you're supposed to be racing! Don't be too scared if you hit anything, at least that damage won't cause too much heartache and the repair bills don't cost anything!

The sound is great, especially throaty sounds coming from those C2's. Also listen for the horns on the on-coming traffic when you cut them off. (Ooops!) I also recommend a steering wheel to control the beast! The keyboard will do, but it is a little harder to control.

Have fun, Tony Walker.
