President's Report (August 2003)

Our guest speaker last month, Ian from Raceline Promotions gave an in-depth view of how our Concourse will work in conjunction with the Street Torque Xtreme Motor Show. All members questions were answered, leaving a very positive attitude for this coming event. October is drawing near, so we have enclosed Concourse entry forms. It would be much appreciated if everyone could pre-enter as soon as possible. This will assist us greatly in the organising and the set-up for the weekend. The organising committee is hot on the trail of gaining sponsorship. Any assistance would be appreciated, whether it is donations of money or goods. We encourage any club member or business to become a sponsor for the Indy Vette Fest Events. All Major sponsors will be recognised at all three events, Indy Vette Sprints/Gymkhana, Indy Vette Fest/Concourse & Drivers Parade Laps.

The Street Torque Motor Show runs Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday. We will have a Vette display in the main building for the entire show. For those who are interested we will be showing cars on the Saturday, including FREE Dyno Shoot Out, BBQ lunch and several Trophies. So make a weekend of it. If you want to leave your Vette on site, there will be 24 hour security. Remember all this only costs $20 entrant fee, and gives you full access to the show, goodies bag and BBQ.

Drivers Parade Laps, have had an excellent response with seven cars from Canberra, and one car from each of Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney, with the rest from Queensland. We still need a few more cars. If you are interested call me NOW. The editor from VETTE MAGAZINE, Bob Wallace, has expressed his interest in doing an article on the 40 Corvettes in the driver’s parade laps at Indy. He wishes he could attend, but unfortunately he cannot, so we are organising a Photo Shoot for the Weekend. This will be great publicity for the Marque of Corvettes in Australia.

Some exciting runs and events are coming up in the next few months, so keep an eye on the “Coming Events” page in your Vetteletter or check the Website. Don’t miss out, as some events need numbers confirmed. While on this subject, Dreamworld requires our numbers and money for Xmas with the Tigers, so we need your confirmation with full payment now.

At this stage there are three Corvettes from Queensland going to Fox Studios. If anyone else is considering going, please let me know so that accommodation can be arranged. We are still looking into car transport for our Vettes to the Melbourne Convention Easter 2004; hopefully we will have some prices soon.

Sandy and I have previous commitments for the evening of the September meeting, so Greg Starkey will again help me out by chairing the meeting in my absence. On the night we want to discuss our Club Shirts. We have no stock of popular sizes, and we have to order thirty shirts minimum due to the collars and cuffs. With sales slow, the committee feels this is too many to order.

‘til next month
Drive your Dream
