President's Report (February 2003)

The year is moving fast, and before we know it Easter will be here, and so will the National Corvette Convention in Canberra. I hope by now that all who are intending to travel to this fantastic event have nominated, and sent in their entries and deposits. The convoy trip down has not had a great response with concerns of getting into Canberra too late on the Friday. If anyone has any alternative plans that may suit more members, could you please contact me?

The Camp Quality Day was a little quieter than expected, but still very successful. Thanks to Rob and all our members who volunteered their time in driving the kids and some parents around West End.

Something New!!! Sunday 2nd March – Super Sunday at Parklands Showground on the Gold Coast. This is a Show ‘N Shine day with all types of Street Machines, Custom Cars, Classics etc run by Raceline Promotions. We will be leaving Caltex at the Logan Hyperdome 8.00 a.m. sharp to travel in convoy down to the venue. Remember, Corvette Club members’ cars and drivers have free entry. If you are not meeting at Caltex, you must let me know to arrange your free entry. Passenger and public admission is $15.00 each.

Another big event is the HOT ROD SHOW. I mentioned it in my last report and at the meeting, so I hope I’m not getting into a NAGGING mode. Even though the enthusiasm in the club seems to be very high, I have had virtually no response to my plea for help. It is a Club, and we do rely on members for their input and help. The committee works very hard voluntarily to keep the club running, but can not carry everything.

We are doing a Limited Edition 50th Anniversary Polo Shirt, available on order only at $40.00 each. So please contact Sandy, as orders will close 24th March, in order to make the shirts available for the Convention and Hot Rod Show. Should you wish to see a sample shirt, Sandy and I will be wearing them on the runs and at the meetings. Alternatively, contact us to make arrangements?

Back to the months flying by!. The committee is looking at organising the Club Christmas Party Dinner to be held at Dreamworld on Tiger Island, possibly on Saturday night November 22nd. We do need to know URGENTLY who would be likely to attend, as the club has to nominate numbers and pay a large deposit to secure a date. Cost will be (depending on numbers) approximately $45.00 per person with children slightly cheaper, this is considerably lower than there normal rate. BACK TO NAGGING MODE!!! If you want this event to proceed contact me ASAP.

John & Babes McRae our new northern members called through to pick up some club merchandise. It was great to catch up with members who you would very rarely see. To our other members who live outside Southeast Queensland and who can’t readily get to our events, it would be nice to hear from you. By all means please send your photos and stories to the editor, as we are very interested to see what you guys and girls get up to with your Vettes.

Till next month
Drive your Dream
