President's Report (January 2003)

Happy New Year to everyone and hope all had a great Christmas. I suppose everyone is back to his or her usual routine with the Christmas and New Years holidays behind us.

January meeting was surprisingly well attended, with 38 members showing up to see what the year has to bring. The club has some great runs and events for 2003, so make sure you read the coming events pages and support your club by having some fun. The Hot Rod Show theme will stem from the 50th Anniversary of Corvettes, with approximately 10 cars on display. This will be held on the Labour Day weekend in May. Helpers are still required to organise this event, so please get in contact no matter how much or little help you can offer.

On Saturday 15th February 2003 Camp Quality will join with the Childhood Leukaemia and Cancer Society, Canteen and Seize the Day to hold the first “International Childhood Cancer Day” in Brisbane at Orleigh Park, West End. This is basically a fun day with activities organised for the children and a time for the parents to sit around and relax by the river. We do NEED AT LEAST 20 CARS to provide rides for the CHILDREN; full details are in the coming events section of Vetteletter. So please contact Rob Warner if you can help.

Our Data Base is still being worked on to rectify the glitches. However, the Web Site is up and running smoothly. Many thanks to Tracey for the great work. Last year Shannons Underwriters did not renew any Public Liability Policies due to worldwide problems. This caused great concern to the committee and some members of our club. Fortunately, Keith Harper worked tirelessly chasing up cover for our club activities and gymkhana’s. We were able to get a very comprehensive policy affiliated with the Australian National Street Machine Association, underwritten by QBE Insurance. This policy covers all our runs and motor racing events. If any one needs to know more about this policy please contact me.

The invitation to attend a Ten Pin Bowling night with the Down Under Club was very successful. A total of 48 people attended. Many thanks for the invite and great night. Greg Starkey and myself have had a meeting with Bill McIntosh and George Gilby from Corvettes Down Under to coordinate the yearly events of both Corvettes Clubs, so as to provide members with a greater variety. Both clubs events will be advertised in both magazines allowing all Corvette enthusiasts to join in any event. Don’t forget that any member can organise a Club run, so contact our Events Coordinator Greg Starkey with your ideas.

There was a great article in the February issue of Unique Cars Magazine. It was called ”Corvette Crazy”. On the Eve of Corvette’s 50th anniversary 7 Corvettes owners from NSW were interviewed about their passion for the America’s favourite sports car. We would like to thank Wendy Forman who was wearing our Queensland Corvette Club Shirt for this article.

The Canberra Committee for the Convention really needs to know who will be attending. Contact Karen Ruse on (02) 6297 3105 or Fax (02) 6297 3971.

Till next month, Drive your Dream
