President's Report (June 2003)

The meeting was smaller than usual with only 30 people attending. There were not too many items on our agenda making this a very quick meeting seeing us finished before 9 O’clock.

The main discussions were on our involvement with Indy. The planning of our Gymkhana and Concourse (Indy Vette Fest) which will be on separate days are well under way, and will be held on the Gold Coast in October preceding the Indy Race Weekend (dates are in the upcoming events). Even though we are in top gear we will be needing members to take on specific jobs with the organising of these events, as an official Indy support event we will receive great exposure and publicity for our Club. If you would like to be part of the organising team please contact myself or any of the Club’s committee members.

My meetings with Indy to parade our Corvettes with the V8 Super Car and Indy Drivers on both Saturday and Sunday of the Indy weekend have been finalised. They want at least 40 cars with most required to carry 3 people plus the driver, all cars will have Indy advertising put on their windscreens and every driver has to pay $265.00 (partner 10% discount $240) which will give them a 4 day ticket to the Andretti Stand, cars will be kept in the lock up area at the Marriott for the Saturday and Sunday only. I am still trying to negotiate a better deal with Indy, with the help from Gary Sykes (President Corvettes of Canberra) who initiated the whole deal.
Indy have a list a mile long of Clubs and also Companies who would pay big dollars to have their cars parade around the track on such a major event. We are privileged to be able to have this opportunity to promote Corvettes especially with this being the 50th Anniversary. FOR THIS TO WORK WE NEED CORVETTES !!!!! IF YOU ARE INTERESTED PLEASE PHONE ME.

Renewals are now due: So please assist the Club by checking your renewal notice and making sure all the details are correct, how about including a current photo of your car so the files can be updated, please enclose your payment and return it to the club by the 2nd July and you will have the chance to win a Mens C4 Watch.

Allan Hughes tended his resignation as our Safety Officer due to family illness, on behalf of myself and the Club I would like to thank Allan for his efforts in this position. Thank you to Rick Werner who has taken Allan’s place until the AGM.

There are some exciting runs and social events coming up so check your calendar and let the trip leaders know if you can make it, if you have any ideas of your own please let our Events Coordinator know.

Sandy and I will be on holidays for the July meeting, so I would like to thank Greg Starkey early as he will be chairing the meeting in my absence.
Till next month,
Drive your Dream
