President's Report (April 2004)

What do you know? Another month has just flown by it seems as though I just wrote my last report yesterday. April has been a busy month, with a great turnout to the convention, our first run to the David Hack Classic in Toowoomba and the Hot Rod Show coming up.

The 36th ANNUAL BRISBANE HOT ROD, STREET MACHINE & CUSTOM AUTO SPECTACULAR, a 4 day event held over the Labour Day long weekend Friday 30th April to Monday 5th May at the RNA Show Grounds. Our theme this year will be Modified Vettes consisting of 9 vehicles. We will be located in the John Reid Pavilion building #7 on the corner of Gregory Tce and Alexandria St Fortitude Valley. Volunteers are still required helping us on the display and talking to the public about our Club and cars. Please phone me on my Mobile 0414 730 833
and let me know what times you can help out on this weekend.

With the Clubs major events getting closer! We are working with Indy so we can be an Official Off Track Support Event again, with our Gymkhana and Show N Shine being separate events. As we get closer to October the dates and venues will be finalised. Keith Harper & Kevin Silk mentioned that this year is the 15th Anniversary of the Qld Corvette Club; discussions were held at the committee meeting to celebrate this in conjunction with our Xmas Party. Before you know it another year will be past.

The 16th Corvette Convention (Corvettes Roar Easter 2004) has been and gone. Congratulations go to Corvettes of Melbourne & Vic Vettes, with special acknowledgement to Darren Pelacchi and his team of helpers for running the largest Convention yet. The Venues, the food, the weather, the cars, and most of all the people made this a most enjoyable and memorable event. Queensland had around 40 enthusiasts attend this wonderful event, anyone that has been to a Convention will know how full on these Easter Weekends are and what value for money you get. Even though we had some damage to our Vette during transport Sandy and I still enjoyed our drive down the Great Ocean Road checking out the 12 Apostles in a Helicopter, staying at Port Campbell overnight then coming back through the Otway National Park, to do the Tree Top Walk. We headed back to the Carlton Crest for the Convention; our highlight of the weekend was going around the Holden Proving Ground at Lang Lang at 225kmh, what a BUZZ.

Next year the 17th National Convention will be held in Perth with Corvettes of Western Australia presenting VETTES ALIVE IN ’05 (March 25th – 28th ), if you are looking at attending this event or need any information please contact me and I will arrange entry forms, also we will put it on our website in the near future. This will be another great event to look forward to, so let’s see how many Queenslanders we can get to Perth.

It’s been great to see so many people on the runs lately, hope to see you all at the Hot Rod Show. Come and check out our display and have a chat.

Till next month, Drive your Dream

Brad
