President's
Report (November 2005)
November's meeting was again well attended and marked our first
7.30pm start. A few hungry diehards were hard
to remove from the eating area, but I think everyone appreciated
getting home a little earlier on a week night.
Our
guest speaker, Phil Ross from Shannon's Insurance, started the
proceedings with a short and informative talk about Quality Insurance
for car restorers and enthusiasts. Shannon's support our Club
and the whole car racing industry extensively and members were
interested in the wide range of services they offered.
Special
Business of the evening was the election of a new vice-president.
Unfortunately no members volunteered and it has now been decided
to keep this position vacant for the remainder of this year.
Committee
members volunteered to chair the meeting in my absence, should
the need arise.
Our Club Committee meeting the following Monday night saw extensive
discussions about the format and content of our updated Web-site.
We hope to have these changes complete by next month's meeting.
Mike Gocs has been working very hard for this outcome and I thank
him for all his efforts in this direction.
Don't
forget to keep a close eye on the Events section of your magazine
(page 2), in the busy run-up to Christmas. There are a large number
of events planned, and one is sure to appeal to your tastes. Unfortunately,
the Willowbank Grand Parade last Sunday was cancelled, due to
the rainy weather. We're not having much luck with our outdoor
events at the moment and some Members fear we will never see Ray
Doyle again!
The
Sunday morning breakfast run to Robin Hood's was a big success,
with over 30 members and friends attending. At that early hour
of the morning some members did indeed look like Outlaws and so
the venue was indeed appropriate. Nice to see our newest members,
Andrew and Donna McCook come along to meet and greet the other
members. Welcome ! Another shock to the system was the sight of
the event leader, Mike Jennings, behind the wheel of a MUSTANG!
We relaxed when told he did, in fact, have a Corvette at home.
Coffee night is on again at our new meeting so please support
this new venue. The food, service and ambience were excellent
last month.
Members
are also looking forward to the Stanthorpe Winery Tour (crawl?)
on
the 26th/27th November, also the Christmas break-up at the Kelly's
house. A huge thankyou to them for opening their home so generously
to other Club members.
That's
it for another month!
Drive safe, have fun and enjoy your vette.
Ernie
Whittle.
