President's
Report (January 2006)
Welcome back everyone and a Happy New Year to you all! I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas break and are ready for a busy and exciting 2007.
Of course, the Convention is our BIG focus for the first quarter of the year and I hope as many members as possible will join me in giving their time and support to our hard-working Committee. I can’t tell you how many hours Brad and his team are putting in to ensure this Easter weekend will be the most memorable Convention so far and of course the more members that attend, the more successful it will be. While it may seem a lot of money for four days, it will be excellent value for money and the entire week-end will be non-stop action and entertainment. We only do this every 6 years (whew!!) and we are show-casing not only our Corvettes, but also our Club and the entire Gold Coast area. I’m sure even our more distant members will find the journey worth-while.
As for this month, you’ll see our Meeting has been postponed a week to allow more of you to be back from your holidays.
On Sunday the 14th I am leading a morning brunch run to Boonah, so please come and join us for a relaxed easy 1 ¼ hour drive to this pretty country town. A new coffee house has recently opened and I can personally testify to the quality of the food and drink.
A new event has been included for Australia Day, with an invitation from the President of the Mustang Club to join them for their run. I encourage you to come with me to this, as I feel it is important for us to do events with other Clubs and the Mustang Club supports us at the Indy ‘Vette Sprints every year. Check your Calendar for all the details of this event and the other scheduled events for this month.
There has been a change of plans with regard to the Cleveland Auto Spectacular in February also, with the event being postponed until April, due to problems with the Council. This is actually quite good, as the Convention will be over and the
weather a lot cooler- I remember being burnt to a crisp last year and we would have all melted if not for Mike Reptik’s giant umbrella, borrowed from his Bar-b-Que/Pool area.
The other regular main events of the Corvette Club will still be going ahead as usual in 2007. These include the Hot-Rod Show, Christmas in July, Noosa Classic and Indy Sprints. Apart from these, we hope to scale down a little and just take it easy after the Convention. If you have a run or idea you would like to try, don’t hesitate to contact Bob Mihill, but you will need to organize it yourself and run it (with our help, of course).
Judy from Camp Quality will attend one of our meetings (probably February) to answer any member’s questions with regard to our interaction with this Charity.
The Committee is also still finalizing events and details with Judy, as to how we best can assist our chosen Charity.
Can I ask members to also give some thought to a more permanent venue for our Annual Concourse, which will re-commence in 2008. We need a fairly central location with a preferably sealed surface, parking space shopping/eating venues. Oxford Street, Bulimba has been suggested and inspected and gets ticks for all requirements except sealed surface.
New Farm Park was also inspected, but is too large and spread out to allow members to leave their cars and walk to a lunch/shopping venue. Negotiations with the relevant Councils means this is something we need to do in 2007, so please e-mail your committee with suggestions.
Well, that’s enough from me for this month! See you at the meeting, or hopefully one of our up-coming events. Cheers,
Ernie and Sally Whittle
