President's Report (March 2007)

Only 5 weeks until the Convention !!!!

These final weeks are going to be really busy, so now would be a good time to put your hand up to assist in whatever capacity you feel you can. There should be a list of areas requiring manpower in this month’s magazine, but a phone call to Brad is still the best option for all Convention info. It’s still not too late to join us, so get those forms in straight away. More can be downloaded from our web site if you can’t find the ones sent out with your magazine.

Our main fundraising event for Camp Quality is the Sunday night Auction and we would still like a few additional items for this event. Anyone with a car-related business, please give some thought to donating a suitable prize that we can use for this worthy event. Smaller items are also very welcome and will be included in our “silent” auction.

The whole Convention package is coming together so well and I have to say again what a professional job your Convention Committee is doing. Sal and I are really looking forward to Easter this year!

Thank you to everyone that supported this month’s events and runs- it was nice to finish off all the food from the Christmas picnic at the Kangaroo Point bar-b-que (and free up my bar fridge!!!!). Our trip organizers have been doing a great job so far this year- thanks everyone.

About a month after Easter (May 4th, 5th and 6th) is the “Hot Rod Show”, which you will recall is one of the core events of the Qld Corvette Club. I will be organizing this with the assistance of my Committee and would appreciate help, particularly with the stand set-up on the Friday afternoon. I will be ringing some of you about this in the next few weeks, so please give a small amount of time if you can. Those that lend their cars for the stand don’t need to hang around all week-end, as there is full security at the venue. I realize you will all be exhausted after the Convention, so this year will be fun and low-key. People will not be asked to man the stand for hours at a time as I don’t think it will be necessary to promote the club after Easter!. Do come along for a chat and a look around, as it’s always a top event in the Brisbane Show car scene.

After a month of having no Corvette, Sal and I have finally picked our new toy. A white 1991 ZR-1 is keeping me quiet and in my shed most week-ends! Despite looking all over Australia for suitable vehicles, we ended up buying our car from a small dealership 5kms from our house. The dealer is an ex-club member, so it really is a small world, isn’t it?

That’s it for me for another month.

Drive safely, enjoy your ‘vette and see you at the Convention!
Ernie.
