President's and Vice President's Reports (November 2008)
Hi to all members and
your families.
What a busy
time we are having, the GM Day at Kawana Waters was a great day
out for the Club, trip leader Kevin Silk said that everybody
that attended enjoyed themselves.
The Mustang Concourse
was a very enjoyable day out with over 120 cars on display, the
one and only Corvette at the show won the award for best
corvette (Ha- Ha- Ha – Gold).
Brad went to Parklands
Show on the 4th Oct and I took my ’71 to Mudgeeraba
Show, as long as any member from our Club goes to fly the flags
at any show, it puts our Club name out there for all to see.
All
financial club members and their families are welcome to the
Xmas Party at Kevin and Denise Silk’s home on Saturday 22nd
Nov (event starts at 1.00 pm).
No charge to members and their partners and any children
under the age of 18.
If wish to bring older members of your family to our fun day –
the cost would be at $20 each.
The Club will supply all food, soft drinks and Santa.
You need to bring your own alcohol and a sense of humor.
It is vital that you notify Kevin and Denise on (07) 3264
2058 for catering purposes, Santa would also like to know how
many children are attending, so he can put the right amount of
presents in his sack.
Read your
Club event page for all other runs please.
Go Drive
your Dream – You’ve only here once.

2008 has been an interesting year for me. I used to
have a shiny red C5, now it's only half a car, due to a
yellow button error that I will never live down. But
thanks to the likes of Dave Kelly and Gary at Harris
Automotive, it should be shinier than ever in 2009. It
has though acted as a shiny star for the C3. Because of the
C5's absence all attention has been diverted to getting it
converted, registered and made drivable without getting
arm-pump! To it's credit it has come thru and rewarded
both Ali and myself with some very memorable moments.
Perhaps more than any other vehicle in history, the Corvette
attracts individuals with highly diverse interests.
For example, some of our members enjoy Corvette history,
while some take part in amateur, professional or illegal
racing. And then there's the "show n shine" crowd.
Varied though their Vette-related hobbies may be, we all
share the one same interest, and that's the social life the
Vette can bring to you.
After being elected for the 2008-09 year as Vice Pres and
events co-ordinator I had a good look at this diversity in
memberships we have and will continue to satisfy all with
show n shines, both our club and joining others. Our
observational rallies, muscle car day runs etc. have
been a great amount of fun and the social lunches and
dinners have fulfilled all the members needs.
2009 activities are well underway. James and I have
spoken with the Mustang club and are doing a combined run
with them in January. With factory horsepower ratings
charting a course for the crab nebula, it's increasingly
imperative for both freshly minted and older tasty Corvette
enthusiasts to have more than a passing familiarity with the
basics of car control. To that end we have dispatched
the use of Morgan Park Dragway for those wishing to
sharpen their acceleration skills.
February is our "Winners Weekend" and Ali and myself will
share the details as they become finalised.
March is Brad's turn as he is always looking for an
adventure and he is finalising a run with the HSV Club
around Lakeside Raceway. The National Concourse in
09 is in Canberra in April, so a contingent of us plan to
show the clubs colours at this prestigious event. We
are letting Bob have May for his Presidents run and look
forward to his announcement of what and where. Ali and
I have joined force with Ern and Sal to work out Christmas
in July and already have the plans well underway. You
wait !!!!! Taking votes for who will be Santa soon.
There will obviously be the other annual events that will
come up through the year as well, it looks like we should
have plenty on.
My advice, spend as much time in your
Corvette with the club as your budget and schedule will
allow, as this is one of life's rewards.
