President's Report  (December 2009)

Gidday,

Well that's it, another year has gone.  Just when I was getting used to yesterday, along came today.  I asked my kids did the year go as quick for them as it did for me, they said," yes," so it's not just me getting old !!!

Speaking of getting old, the club turned 20 this year.  For all of you that joined in the celebrations at the Park Regis last month, I hope you had as much fun as Ali and I did.  Great catching up with lots of members and putting a face to names I had not yet met.  We'll now be old friends until we are old and senile, then we'll be new friends!

Thanks to all those involved in the organising of the night, the food, band and our auction were all huge successes.  We made enough to cover the costs and the remainder we donated to Camp Quality.  That was an excellent result, so thanks to those that donated items, the bidders, and congratulations to those that won the items.  Quite a few of us stayed the night, had a big breakfast and never knowing when to have enough, stopped for coffee on the way home.  Ali worked out that Irish Coffee provides in a single glass all four food groups:  Caffeine, alcohol, sugar and fat!!!

At the end of each year we have a Christmas party.  It's a good time to have it because it is close to Christmas!  This year Tom and Cheryl donated their Mt Cotton ranch to us for mistreatment.  The blokes couldn't keep away from the traditional BBQ duties, the kids were flat out in the jumping castle and the women were doing something unusual, "chatting".  Tom had the water cart out in the paddock with the big plastic slide, a bitta soap, and Keith told me to test it whilst he takes a photo.  I got my Santa suit wet and Ernie said I was the only kid that got to the bottom and swore!  Bloody tent peg!

Some of us spent a lot of time at the bar hearing about Tom's Peter Brock stories and getting him to explain how thousands of folk live up in the hills at Mt Cotton but only have 4 last names???  Another great day, my family were worn out.  It's always great to have our kids and other members kids join us as a group.  Thanks Tom and Cheryl for welcoming everyone to your world, a very nice one at that!!

We had members support the traditional Camp Quality Christmas Party at Bribie Island and Brad handed over their $500 donation from our 20th night.  The Thunderbirds Run was well attended and some of our convertibles paraded for the Super GP, I mean V8 Drivers laps on the coast.

To finish up the year, we did something we are good at, dining out.  The Moss's led about 20 of us up Tamborine Mountain to Eagle Heights for a culinary experience.  Beautiful views over the coast matched the beautiful steaks.  Geoff worked out that red meat is not bad for you, fuzzy green meat is!  We enjoyed a terrific thunder and lightning show and of course rain to follow whilst dining.  For the few of us in our Vettes, a nice steady drive down the wet mountain was in order.  I nearly had to book into rehab because I put the "Tiger Shark" away wet and dirty, but an early start Saturday morning restored it's former shine.  Thanks to Ian and Lynelle for organising Moss's dinner, a fine end to another year of dining pleasures.

2010, it's looking busy already.  The Presidents Triple Drag weekend is in place for late February, Neil's already working on his C5 to see if he can get near Performax's new ZR1.  Kevin hopes to have it ready in time to bring and we also have a weekend planned mid year for a tour through Performax and a day at the skid pan.  The 2010 Convention is going to be in Perth at Easter and I hear whispers that a few members are going.

Ernie's working on an observation rally, no doubt we'll be dining out monthly again, and as Ali and I love our Vettes so much there seems to be always something to do with the club or our friends from the club and if not, we love taking the Vette out.  I'm getting tired thinking about all these activities, I don't feel old, I don't feel anything until noon, then it's time for my nap.

Hope you all had a great Christmas and can't wait to catch up with your stories,
