President's Report
(April 2010)
On The Marque
Remember the last time you bought another car? You sat in the salesman's cramped office while all the T's were crossed and the I's were dotted, fidgeting and glancing at the sales awards on the wall. Then you simply got your keys, a firm handshake, climbed in and drove away.
That's all fine and good if you're buying a second car/ little league shuttle/ grocery getter. However, if you're new purchase is a Corvette, you deserve better.
I am forever receiving phone calls from prospective members enquiring about different models and features and it is great to be able to answer them or give them the contacts that can. We are spoilt to have a great amount of knowledge within our club, the members and their willingness to share this information for these new Corvetters,(and of course in return join them up as members), is a huge bonus for all.
With our annual Concourse looming in August this is a great time for our members and the public to view a variety of models and all aspects of standard and modified Corvettes. This is also a perfect time for question hungry potential new owners to look and learn from both the cars and the people with all the experience.
When do you know if you've done just enough modifications to your Corvette, or if you've been cursed with the insatiable compulsion to continue its customization, even beyond all reasonable boundaries of sense and sanity? Anyone involved in building performance or collector vehicles will tell you that the cars most revered and remembered are not simply the ones with the best paint, the nicest interior, or the most power. To build a truly unique project car, especially a Corvette, the car needs to be a well rounded and well appointed performance vehicle that's built for a specific purpose.
Our juges at these events take all this into consideration in the personalised and modified categories. It is a very complex role and the committee has elected Dave Kelly to organise this aspect of the event.
We also use these days to attempt to ply several of the public to join the Corvette owners and win new converts to the Corvette cause. So far our club has 110 members and new ones joining always.
All of us at present are obviously enjoying our Vettes and the social aspect of the club, with over 45 going to Warwick for the weekend of drag, 35 coming on the Gold Coast Cruise night and over 50 booked for Gympie, we must be doing something right. Don't forget our 1920's Xmas in July theme, phone Ken or Marina to organise your place as that will be upon as next. Also Ian looks like securing us a place at Lakeside for their Independence Day events so keep in touch for that............. do we all have to dress up again Mossy??
Don't forget all Corvette buyers become a part of a select group of automotive aficionados the instant they sign on the dotted line, and us that know about that take great pride in sharing it..
cheers Peter Turner
