President's Report  (October 2010)

It's all in the Looks......

Predicting the specifics and "looks" of a new car model ahead of a generation change is a lot like picking the winner at Taits Day at the start of the year.  In the case of GM, such prognostications are further handicapped by the corporation's strict policy of never commenting on future products "looks".

We'll leave debating the wisdom of that tight-lipped approach for another Friday Night Dinner and focus on a little enthralling  reading of our own.  For a while there's been no official word from Detroit on the direction or timing of the seventh-generation Corvette but I'm thinking after watching "Transformers" with the kids, the C7 will be heavily based on those "looks."  The "look" is certainly a striking one, and once adapted to suit production and finished in "Post box Red", they will be well received by all.

For all the Stingray concept's cosmetic virtuosity, the "looks" that got my most interest was the split rear window, last seen on a '63 Coupe.  A rear facing camera will address the thick spine's visibility to ensure an outward "look."  The C7's power "looks" like it will most likely come from a downsized V-8 (not a turbo 6, phew) displacing 5.5liters.

As for timing, don't expect to "look" at the seventh generation Corvette to motor into the showrooms before 2013.  We'll have to get Kevin at Performax to have one ready to "look" at for the national convention to be held in Queensland that year.  Assuming you can wait the car will blend masterful dynamics of the existing model with an electrifying new "look" and a thoroughly modern power train.

The mob at GM must have been "looking" at the progress in Adelaide of Ross's "Prodigy" Corvette as I think that is the "look" they are after.  Have you been sending photo's Dave???

There is also new "looks" starting with our committee, as Kathie is modifying the Vetteletter to her taste, the benefit of being the editor.  She has lots of ideas and lucky Con has the time, as he's hand has been put up to help.  Jillian, "looking" after our finances has also been "looking" into different interest rates with different lenders.  Suzy back doing the fundraising means Geoffrey has to "look" out for Carolee and not be disruptive.  Mossy has a different "look" on life since his return from the US and with all that going on Sal has different "looking" person to contend with....me !!!!

It's been great at the past few events to have different "looks" in the trip leaders cars, Chris with his dinner run and Mike with our weekend away.  It's also been a while since Con has led a run, so that also will be a different "look" when he takes us to Toowoomba in November.

As the end of another year draws near don't forget to "look" at what's coming up, especially our Christmas Party at Colmslie Beach Park on the 12th December.  If it "looks" like you can make it please let us know as Nev's "Swagman's Spit Roasts" is catering and numbers are needed.

Well it "looks" like that's it from me this month, if you have anything worth "looking" at, please send it to Kathie, she promises to "look" at anything.

Here's "looking" at you,  cheers Peter
