President's Report (September 2010)
We've found that Corvette owners are the restless sort, dissatisfied not only
with most production sports cars (hence the reason for getting into a Vette in
the first place), but with stock power levels as well.
Kevin from Performax keeps reminding us how much fun the new Supercharged ZR1 is in its "standard" trim....... and that there was no way it could be presented at our concourse last month after Top Gear spent some time "testing" its power levels. Surely, this would be one model not needing too much modification in the HP department?
There are fast cars, but this thing is fast. It's fast in a way that, when you're behind the wheel, your brain immediately starts calculating "what if" scenarios, because it realises the velocity the car is capable of achieving within a very short distance.
As the next few years roll on we may see a few more of these on our roads and as
annual drivers by members in our club, but a few lucky members that have spent
recent weeks and months in the USA, have noticed these vehicles are currently a
reality. The Webro's will be full of stories as those they have caught up
will know, and the Moss's will also have a tale to tell. Lets see if Ian
can organise an event like the Corvette Funfest in Illinois, September 17-19,
more than 15,000 Corvettes on display and an estimated 45,000 Vette fans.
Some Vettes show performance from a different perspective and a seemingly different realm of existence - one where the laws of physics are upended, and gravity is reduced to enable warp speed acceleration. This can be in Performax's new ZR1 or in your C1,2,3,4, 5 or 6, it's your choice to blend your exuberance and fear into what you wish, that is the beauty of owning a Corvette for your reasons....
When we head out to Stanthorpe for our winery tour, Mike will be out in front in
his glorious C6 leading the way, but we'll make him sit in the back of the tour
bus later just to give others a turn in front.
Chris had a turn out in front leading the pack to Aqua Restaurant at Labrador, a
good turn out I hear, and it's back to the Moss's turn in October for a back
from the States story and slide night.
The power struggle is set to continue again as "Tait's day 2" is set to challenge those members at the Maudsland Cup reunion October 31st. For those participants competing last year, there will be no advantage, as John promises a new range of activities for this family orientated club fund raising event.
Don't forget to build up your brain power levels as well, because Ali and I have
organised another "Trivia Night" at The Belvedere Hotel, Redcliffe, Saturday
November 13th........ Cruise, Food and Entertainment, what a powerful
idea.....
The polish and shine members contesting at the GM Round Up will once again have their work judged, as those dissatisfied with previous modifications continue to improve their pride and joys, don't they Doyley ?
Well, I think I would hate to be another passenger in another vehicle with another driver, as your brain would kick into roller-coaster mode tempered by the nagging thoughts of whether another driver's capabilities are anywhere near that of the cars!!! This must be the reason why god put us all here, "as one thing leads to another", it keeps us all busy working out what the next "another" will be..
Till another time......cheers Peter Turner
